We’re pet owners who got tired of guessing too.
Furrowise exists because most pet care content online falls into one of two traps: either it’s written by someone who’s never actually lived with the breed-specific quirks they’re advising on, or it’s a wall of generic advice that ignores how different dogs and cats really are from each other.
We do this differently. Every product we review, we buy ourselves and actually use with our own pets. Every care guide we write, we cross-check against real veterinary and research sources — not just repeat what a pet food brand’s marketing page says about its own product. And when something is breed-specific or genuinely uncertain, we say so, instead of flattening every dog and every cat into the same generic advice.
Who’s behind this
Maddie
Maddie researches and writes Furrowise’s care guides and product reviews, combining hands-on experience from her own pets with a close reading of veterinary and pet-health research on the topics she covers.
She shares her home with a Bulldog and a Maine Coon cat — two breeds with genuinely different care needs. Living with a brachycephalic (short-nosed) breed means paying close attention to airway health, heat tolerance, and skin-fold care; sharing space with a large-breed cat means thinking about joint health, long-hair grooming, and growth patterns most “average cat” advice doesn’t cover. Those day-to-day realities shape a lot of what gets covered here.
Maddie is not a veterinarian, and Furrowise’s content is not veterinary advice. What she brings is a habit of checking claims rather than repeating them — she doesn’t publish a recommendation she can’t trace to a real source, and she says clearly when something is based on her own pets’ experience versus broader research.
How we actually work
We buy what we review. We purchase the products we review ourselves and do not accept free products from brands in exchange for coverage. If that ever changes, we’ll disclose it clearly, every time.
We check the research. For care and health claims, we go back to veterinary sources and published research rather than repeating a brand’s own marketing claims about its product.
We tell you when something is breed-specific. A lot of pet advice online treats “dog” and “cat” as single categories. We try not to — what works for a Bulldog’s airway and skin folds isn’t the same as what a Maine Coon’s joints and coat need, and we flag those differences instead of smoothing them over.
We stay honest about affiliate links. Some links on Furrowise are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission if you purchase through them — at no extra cost to you. This never affects which products we recommend or how we rate them. Full details in our Affiliate Disclosure.

A small number of illustrative images on this site are created using AI tools and are used for visual/conceptual purposes only — they do not depict the actual product being reviewed. All product review photos are real photos, either taken by us or provided by the brand.
Who this is for
Furrowise is built for dog and cat owners who want care and product advice that actually accounts for how different breeds and individual pets can be — not one-size-fits-all tips. We focus on practical, well-sourced information over trends or guesswork.
A note on what we’re not
We’re not a veterinary clinic, and nothing on Furrowise is a substitute for professional veterinary care. If your pet is showing signs of illness, injury, or unusual behavior, please contact a licensed veterinarian rather than relying on anything you read here. What we offer is careful, well-sourced information to help you ask better questions and make better-informed choices for your pet — not a diagnosis or a treatment plan.
